The aim of the project’s own path to higher education is to support the transition from second to higher education, to streamline study paths, to promote appropriate educational choices and to prevent inappropriate educational choices and early school leaving. The concrete objective is to build a regional overall model of cooperation between secondary and higher education institutions in Central Finland to support and streamline the transitions of the study path. The activities target young people studying in upper secondary school and secondary vocational education, as well as teaching and guidance staff in secondary education and higher education. In addition, the activities may target those young people who have already completed their secondary education and are not in higher education or working life, e.g. young people using the services of cabs. The project also involves labour market actors and other actors in guidance and education administration. The measures of the project are piloting guidance to support the transition phase, flexibility and speeding up the study path, as well as promoting appropriate, work-oriented training choices. Guidance to support study choices, as well as wide-ranging courses familiarising with university studies, take into account the heterogeneous needs of young people, ranging from multiple uncertainty to strong awareness of their own professional aspirations. Guidance and study courses are developed using new learning environments, peer counselling and working life cooperation. The development is carried out by representatives of secondary, tertiary and professional level.Regionally, an overall model will be created that will intensify secondary and tertiary cooperation, dismantle overlapping activities, create common game rules and good practices. From the student’s point of view, appropriate guidance is promoted and the student’s knowledge of higher education and working life is increased. Cooperation and the construction of a comprehensive model are supported by personnel training and events promoting the interaction between education and working life. The result of the project is an overall model that includes not only a new culture of cooperation, but also competence-based guidance and teaching for education and working careers in diverse learning environments, which support secondary students to find their own path to higher education and working life.
