Project to develop the integration of immigrants

The project will test and develop a model that integrates immigrants’ integration and job counselling services as an integral part of other public services in the business area. Guidance related to customer work is related to language preparation in workplaces and everyday life. Experience in the living environment is also carried out in a group form and, on the other hand, lessons learnt in the group are taken back to the living environment. In addition to language training, the project provides job preparation to ensure migrants’ access to employment services provided in the region. The clients of the project will be those immigrants who can be redirected to their working life. On the other hand, relatives of those who are relocating to work are also selected as customers. This is intended to help immigrants who are able to work not only become informal carers tied to their homes and their own surroundings. From the customer’s point of view, the reform is a service aimed at all immigrants, which provides support when cultural and linguistic background makes it difficult to use the local service system. The great importance of the project is that the development work is carried out within the municipalities’ own service system, so that the project has a better chance to become a practice. From the network’s point of view, the project provides support in service situations and in the development of services for migrant customers. Employers have an advantage in job coaching, which helps to train customers according to the requirements of the works. The project is managed by the City of Mikkeli and the City of Savonlinna is involved in the project.
