Ossi2 — Skills at Work project promotes the employment of people with a migrant background in the Päijät-Häme region. The project will create a model to improve the recognition of previously acquired skills at an earlier stage and to develop both job and work coaching in a more language- and culturally conscious direction through multi-professional cooperation. The project will develop skills recognition practices and job preparation in educational institutions to facilitate access to employment and integration into work culture for people with a migrant background. In addition, policies will be developed to support the development of professional language skills already during integration or other initial language training. Companies will be supported, if necessary, in recruitments and with companies developing language- and culturally conscious work coaching in order to lower the threshold for recruiting people with an immigrant background. The project is carried out by Lahti University of Applied Sciences and the Education Centre Salpaus in cooperation with companies in the region. The main target group of the project is immigrants in a difficult labour market position, whose employment is hindered by poor knowledge of Finnish working culture and/or working practices, lack of professional language skills or insufficient recognition of their previously acquired skills. The indirect target group of the project is companies whose recruitment and work coaching process is facilitated by the strengthening of language and cultural knowledge.
