Inclusive and sporting theatre

The main objective of the project is to increase young people’s skills and participation by means of performing arts (theater and circus) and physical activity. The main objective will be achieved through two sub-objectives: 1) creating and consolidating local approaches for cooperation between sports, performing arts and youth actors, and 2) testing, developing and modelling young people’s participatory and civic participation methods in the fields of arts and physical activity. The project is national. Its manager and main executive is the Deaconia University of Applied Sciences, Kalliolan Nuoret ry, Kajaani City Theatre, Kanuun Liikunta ry, WAU and Q-theater ry. The main target group of the project is young people aged 15-25 who are at risk of social exclusion and have fewer opportunities to engage in physical activity and performing arts than young people of their age. In addition, the actual target groups include experts working with young people working in sports organisations, theaters, circuses and youth organisations. The project results and related measures are:1) At the level of the organisation: Creating and anchoring approaches at local level through cooperation between actors in the fields of physical activity, theatre, youth and educational institutions. The project’s cooperation with the Employment Service will make it possible to find young people who have not entered or have dropped out of education. The close cooperation of the project with local educational institutions, both primary and vocational, will bring project activities to those young people who have not yet completed further studies or are at risk of being missed due to loneliness, bullying or lack of self-esteem. The project makes it possible to join a functional hobby. The result will be achieved by bringing together local managers in joint workshops and consultations. 2) Method level: Testing and developing methods for engaging young people and supporting young people’s civic activity in the fields of performing arts and physical activity. The result will be achieved by strengthening the knowledge of participatory and civic active methods of local performing arts, physical activity, educational institutions and young people. And by systematically testing and collecting experiences in workshops, groups and clubs aimed at young people using both physical activity and performing art methods. It is essential for young people to plan their own activities in the presence of adults. The methods will be disseminated and implemented outside the project consortium by organising project information for local partners, as well as operational ways to familiarise themselves with them. New operating methods and models developed at both organisational and methodological level will be documented and produced as digital material products. As the coordinator of the project, the Deaconia University of Applied Sciences is a national actor that allows the project’s outputs to be disseminated in all major directions in the field of social, health and church education.
