Well-being and productivity in the horticulture sector (HortiProw)

Work in the horticulture sector is seasonal and physically burdensome, which poses challenges to well-being and productivity at work, while the average age of employees in the sector increases with both the reduced interest of young people and the increase in the number of middle-aged changers. The increasing competition in the sector also entails mental stress. The aim of the project is to promote the well-being and productivity of the horticultural sector. The project is carried out in a nationwide gardening case companies, with which the challenges of maintaining and developing well-being at work are investigated and solutions are sought while improving productivity. The objective is 1. to provide companies with solutions to increase productivity and to continue working careers by improving well-being at work and to consolidate them as part of the company’s operations 2. to form couples/groups of companies, who together invent work wellbeing and productivity development activities 3. Strengthen the development of well-being at work and productivity in the horticultural sector through these pilots. The project is carried out in case companies by involving both management and employees in development work. The project will cooperate in identifying the initial situation of companies, inventing development measures and putting them into practice. Data is collected at different stages of the process through interviews and participatory methods. Based on the data produced in the project, the work and experiences of young and elderly people in the horticultural sector are compared with work development needs, load and danger situations. Work wellbeing and productivity development targets and solutions and good practices will also be summarised. The analysis of the development process and its impact assessment feedback will be carried out by age group; whether it was possible to influence the work, the work community and the well-being of different age groups during the process, and what measures can be recommended to the operators in the field to develop their operations and productivity on the basis of the project.
