The aim of the project is to reduce the drop-out of studies in Varian vocational education and training by supporting students’ overall well-being and studies. A supportive and safe learning environment, as well as clear structures for teaching, guidance and support, will strengthen attachment to studies and reduce drop-outs. Varia has a high drop-out rate: in 2017, it was 17.1 % in undergraduate and preparatory education. Varia has taken various measures and projects in recent years to reduce the suspension, but at least so far they have had no impact on the reduction of suspension. From drop-out to encounter, the project aims to support students at risk of early school leaving. The project will increase the capacity of Varia’s teachers to support and guide young people and develop a staff-based approach based on cooperation, which will make it possible to better identify the needs of students’ support and to guide them to the necessary services. A common approach and capacity to support and meet will be developed through staff training and joint workshops. The aim is to support young people at risk of exclusion, while at the same time developing operating models that support the well-being of all students and the successful completion of their studies. Cooperation between responsible teachers and support and guidance services plays an important role in identifying and steering support needs. The project also aims to influence the suspension by means of special youth work. A total of four special youth workers will be recruited for the undergraduates involved in piloting, working especially with young people at risk of dropping out and at the same time supporting the work of teachers and student care. The project will provide students with them with planned leisure activities. The aim is to increase the sense of community and comfort in the educational institution and to support the establishment of friendship and attachment to the educational institution. In addition, the project will develop cooperation between basic education and Varia in order to promote access to the right field and to familiarise pupils in basic education with vocational education. The aim is to link the operating models of the Suspension to Meeting project to the basic activities of the fields involved in the pilots during the project. After the project, the operating models will be disseminated to the entire institution. Effective practices are also disseminated at national level.
