Promoting the working capacity and well-being of rural entrepreneurs

The aim of the project is to promote the working capacity and well-being of rural entrepreneurs and to develop their business activities. The project is in line with the objectives of both Kainuu and North Ostrobothnia provincial strategies. Kainuu’s regional strategy emphasises the necessity and importance of sufficient business expertise in all Kainuu industries. According to the strategy, companies should also invest in developing the quality of working life (safety at work, well-being at work). Businesses need support to improve labour productivity and to modernise their working methods. The skills of company staff should be supported throughout their working lives, taking into account the needs of workers of different ages, including older workers. Development should be part of work and the daily life of working communities. The project will increase the use of forests for recreation and the production of ecosystem services. In addition, health and well-being services based on nature (Green Care) and culture will be developed and implemented. North Ostrobothnia’s regional rural development strategy (2014-2020) emphasises innovation, coping at work, peer learning and reorganising work. The strategy promotes people’s good daily lives, including meaningful work, adequate livelihoods, living community and the opportunity to influence one’s own environment and community. The project focuses on prevention and prevention of burnout as early as possible. The project opens up new perspectives on business management, work development and working as a working community. The project will be implemented through work packages. Management and Business Competence Work Packages focus on strengthening the skills required for effective business operations. The peer-to-peer and community work package will increase the sharing of know-how among entrepreneurs and strengthen participation in the community. Effective interaction in the work community focuses on strengthening social skills and working as a work community. Well-functioning interaction and good working atmosphere have a positive impact on the company’s productivity. The well-being work package brings together the contents of previous work packages, complementing them and supporting productivity. The work packages focus on the themes of the Regional Rural Development Strategy for Northern Ostrobothnia (2014-2020): business and management skills, cooperation between entrepreneurs, networking, community, development of farm services and rural services, and promotion of well-being. The project will result in a model of the factors that generate and promote the well-being of rural entrepreneurs. The model and the results of the project can be disseminated through the national and international networks of universities of applied sciences for wider use. As a result of the project, the management, business and development skills of rural entrepreneurs will increase, thereby improving the profitability of the business and reducing the financial risks of the operation. Entrepreneurs’ ability to work and copier at work will be improved because they will receive new tools and means to promote work capacity and well-being. With the improvement of the working climate and culture of work, the sense of work becomes more meaningful and the sense of community becomes stronger.
