Omppu — Directing the immigrant’s basic education path

The main objective of the Omppu — Guidance to the Basic Education Path of an immigrant is to develop the recognition and recognition of competences and individual and effective study paths for immigrants who have reached the compulsory school age. The aim is to create a nationally efficient and upwards path to basic education for immigrants, from education for illiteracy to diploma. The project will be implemented by the City of Tampere, the Touko Voutilainen School Foundation (Eira Adult High School), the Espoo Region Education Association Omnia, the City of Oulu, the University of Tampere School of Education and the Department of Language, Translation and Literature Sciences and the City of Turku. The aim is to implement the following sub-objectives: • Develop a nationally disseminated competence mapping model aimed at identifying and recognising immigrants’ previously acquired general education in a way that supports the student’s progress. evidence of competence) • Strengthening and speeding up the path of students to the correct stage of basic education, as well as streamlining the transition from initial to primary education by identifying and eliminating overlaps in studies, creating individual and flexible study paths in basic education, and harmonising the operating culture of the different stages of basic education. By means of a competence mapping, students can also be directed to other education that corresponds to their level of competence. • Strengthen and harmonise the structure of basic adult education at national level, taking into account local operating environments. • Combine adult primary education and initial/preparatory basic education into a seamless whole with flexible and individual study pathways, leading to a faster and more effective completion of basic education, leading to further studies and working life • Developing and updating the competences of teachers, guidance staff, municipal and employment authorities working on integration tasks and drawing up integration plans, as well as other participants in the network to meet the needs of non-linguistic and multicultural students. The aim is to establish a close and effective network of experts consisting of teachers, guidance professionals and public authorities.During the course of the EU, the methods of skills identification will be developed in cooperation between teachers and study counsellors in primary and primary education (S2 teachers, subject teachers and teachers with a migrant background) and the authorities of the municipality and the Employment and Economic Development Office who work in integration tasks and prepare integration plans. The structure of basic education will be developed and strengthened in cooperation with the training providers involved in the implementation of the project and with other partners by sharing information, compiling and further developing best practices, networking and training the staff of implementing organisations and authorities involved in integration tasks. The project develops the structure of basic education and the operating environment and culture in such a way that the path of an immigrant student becomes flexible and individual, enabling progress to be as efficient as possible and recognising the student’s specific needs. The project also develops the competences of teachers, guidance staff, public authorities and other network participants in teaching non-linguistic and multicultural students, language-conscious teaching, identification of specific needs and other themes supporting an effective basic education path. The result of the project is to improve, strengthen and harmonise the basic education of immigrants who have reached the compulsory school age at national level, and the good practices in the recognition and recognition of competences can be compiled, documented and disseminated. With the measures of the project, students will be more quickly redirected to the right educational pathways and further to working life, training will be more efficient and students’ training periods will be reduced. The competence of teachers, supervisors and public authorities develops extensively and the methods and tools developed in the project also make wider use of secondary education.
