NevO Tiija — a new era

The overall objective of the NevO Tiija — a new time project is to increase the equality, inclusion and well-being of the Roma. It will implement the measures required by the Progress Report on the Roma Policy Agenda. The real objective of the project is to improve the working and functioning capacity of the Roma and their chances of participation in the labour market. The project is national. Its main executive and co-ordinator is the Deaconia University of Applied Sciences. Participators include the Helsinki Deaconess Institute Foundation, the City of Helsinki and Vantaa, the Oulu Deacon Institute, the Finnish Romani Forum and the National Institute for Health and Welfare. The City of Kuopio participates in the project as a co-financer and partner. The project cooperates with the Roma Advisory Boards and Roma associations. The results of the project and related measures include: 1) the skills of service operators, cooperation between different actors and awareness of the factors affecting the equality of the Roma population have increased. The result will be achieved through the use of Roma expertise and experience, in particular in the implementation and development of social, health and employment services. 2) The well-being and working capacity of the Romani population has improved and the resulting research knowledge and experience has been utilised in the development of services. The project will carry out a study on the well-being of the Roma and apply health promotion measures, e.g. in peer-to-peer activities. 3) the accessibility and accessibility of inclusive services for Roma families has improved. Different peer support models and open meeting places are created, as well as thematic days and events. 4) Romani employment has improved. The measures will be piloted through multidisciplinary cooperation on groups and services supporting employment, and cooperation with employers. 5) Project coordination has ensured the joint development of the project results and their integration into the basic activities. This will be achieved by communicating the project in different media and in a web-based open working environment, disseminating information, good practices and results through project partners, involving Roma in project implementation, organising regional and national seminars, workshops and events, raising awareness among decision-makers on Roma issues and assessing the achievement of project results. The project will be implemented in cooperation with the Czech Naal Training Pathways (ESR, TL 4).
