Attractiveness of the disability sector and development of education (Vave)

The attractiveness of the disability sector and the development of training (Vave)The need for a project stems from the lack of labour force in the disability sector in the region and the lack of attractiveness of work in the disability sector. The reform and restructuring of the health and social services sector, as well as changes in society affecting the operating environment, such as changes in legislation, challenge skills in the disability sector. The aim of this project is to influence the availability of a skilled workforce and the attractiveness of the disability sector and the strengthening of skills in this project:1. The project, together with service providers in the field of disability, will map the future skills needs of the disability sector, focusing in particular on local needs, and use existing knowledge on education foresight work. The surveys support the development of the educational components of the project, the skills of the working life and the networking of the previous ones. 2. Strengthening skills in the field of disability and promoting the availability of the workforce in the field of disability The project strengthens the competences of the disability sector by creating study paths leading to the disability sector in both secondary and polytechnics (a part of the degree related to the basic degree in the field of education and training, the skills package of the Open University of Applied Sciences in the field of disability, new models of guidance) and by promoting them to students and working life interested in the field. The project aims in various ways to attract interest in work in the field of disability and to intensify cooperation between different forms of education and working life in building and guiding studies.3. Developing new operating models for the different operating environments of disability work and strengthening the ‘brand’ in the disability sector The project will model new ways from the employer’s point of view to direct the disability sector to studies and jobs in the field by strengthening the brand and attractiveness of the sector. The project develops technological working methods and operating models for guidance and care work in the field of disability, which help to influence the well-being of customers through new means and to further increase the attractiveness of the sector. In the long term, the project will increase the skilled workforce in the disability sector by creating and modelling job opportunities in the disability sector, including for non-skilled workers. The new models will ultimately support customers’ quality of life, well-being, individual and communal lifestyles and increase the transparency and interaction of the sector with the surrounding society. The skills survey is carried out in cooperation with working life and it is aimed at the actors in the field of disability in South Savo. Training in the field of disability will be strengthened by building training pilots with the region’s secondary vocational education and training institutions and working life, taking into account local skills needs. The pilot utilises close-to-face, online and work-based learning. The project develops the part of the degree in accordance with local requirements as a cooperation between upper secondary school and working life, as well as a set of skills that deepens the competence in the field of disability into an open university of applied sciences together with working life. Diak brings skills in the field of disability and interpreting, among other things. After completing an open university of applied sciences studies, the student can move to an open university of applied sciences. In the study paths related to the project, attention is paid to the good guidance of students. In addition, the project develops a support and guidance model for an open university of applied sciences and strengthens the steering partnership in working life and education at second level. In the project, disability organisations pilot new care technology models that support the well-being of customers, for example in housing services for disabled work. By means of well-being technology, the development of working methods and piloting, the attractiveness of workplaces in the disability sector will be increased, the content and areas of expertise being extended. The sub-project will develop, among other things, recruitment practices that will help to increase the attractiveness and attractiveness of the disability sector among students and employees. The project will carry out advocacy and information work and experiment with new forms of cooperation between educational institutions, schools, TE Offices and workplaces in the field of disability. The project will also model employment opportunities in the disability sector for non-graduate workers.
