Let’s go to work!

Let’s go to work! the project develops a network of partnerships for the employment of immigrants with the municipality, TE services, immigrant organisations and Sodexo. The aim is to contribute to the matching of labour supply and demand, while at the same time promoting the employment of migrants with a weak labour market position. The activities have a strong basis thanks to the previous partnership between the municipality, the TE Office and the organisations. The project aims to create a model that lowers the threshold for employment, making it easier for the client to find employment, but also easier for the entrepreneur to reach suitable employees. The aim of the action is to encourage customers, especially women, towards working life through positive demonstrations, and also to discuss expectations and requirements related to Finnish working life. The aim is also to model cooperation with the business sector, to develop recruitment processes and to prevent prejudices and misunderstandings against jobseekers with a migrant background. Based on the experience gained from customer work, the problem areas of the employment path were identified in particular as the lack of company contact, the difficulty of recruitment processes for the client, the need for support from both the client and the company when an employment relationship or work trial agreement is created. In addition, studies support the findings that there is still ethnic discrimination in recruitment. The implementation of the project combines in a unique way the trust offered by the organisations, the support provided by the authorities to the customers, and the company’s recruitment needs. The project will increase employment for Vantaa immigrants and allow customers of the target group to move forward on their career path or close to their first job. Customers are able to complement their skills with the help of parts of a degree or other training. In addition, migrant women become more active and familiar with new career opportunities. Through the project, Sodexo gets employees into its vacancies and creates contacts with the network operators. Misunderstandings related to working life are reduced by providing customers with accurate information on their rights and obligations at work. In addition, good information will reduce prejudices and misunderstandings related to immigrants. Partners’ knowledge and knowledge of each other’s activities are growing. The authorities‘and organisations’ perception of promoting employment is widened through business cooperation and the company side also learns about the activities of organisations and authorities. The multicultural skills of companies and their appreciation for diversity are increasing.
