Base Camp — Development of Student Entrepreneurship Platforms

The main objective of the Base Camp project is to identify different forms of student entrepreneurship in Northern Karelia and to develop for each form an entrepreneurship path consisting of studies and services, making use of the Spark Joensuu student entrepreneurship environment shared by educational institutions and business organisations in the region. The design of the Entrepreneurship Paths takes into account the special needs of the province for distance independent guidance so that different forms of remote coaching are piloted in the project. The project will also develop a specific form of intensive coaching by industry, e.g. e-commerce. At least a nationally significant entrepreneur with experience in the relevant business form will be recruited as the main expert in each coaching. The second main objective of the project is to develop and implement policies and practices for students’ multidisciplinary open product development environment. The product development environment will be piloted using existing or third-party facilities of educational institutions and existing equipment. The open and independent use of the product development environment will be made possible by the resource and equipment reservation system being developed in the project, as well as the use of different equipment training modules. The product development environment responds to the growing need for multidisciplinary technology know-how and creates new technology-centred student entrepreneurship. The project is the first to create entrepreneurial pathways that combine studies and services across educational and organisational boundaries for the needs of various students planning entrepreneurship or already acting as an entrepreneur. In addition, we will deepen the already strong generic student entrepreneurship training and counselling in the region by developing a way of remote coaching to bring national top-level sector-specific business expertise to support those on the entrepreneurial path. The project will launch the multidisciplinary and open product development environment activities of students previously lacking in the province by developing the required resource reserve systems and training modules for independent use. The project will generate: 1. Spark and product development environment2. Resource system and training modules3. Intensive Remote Technology-assisted coachingThe project will be implemented by Karelia Ammattikorkeakoulu Oy and North Karelia Municipal Council of Education, Riveria. The Spark community also includes the University of Eastern Finland, Business Joensuu and TE-service start-up financial advice.
