I learned from the stairs to work in Satakunta

The Satakunta project responds to the regional need to streamline the transition between the final stage of studies and working life of students with immigrant and Romani background and international qualifications. The main objective of the project is to ensure the graduation of students with a migrant background, other under-represented students and international degree students, to promote employment and to strengthen the multicultural and linguistic awareness of working life representatives.Particular objectives: 1) End-stage studies will be streamlined and ensured graduation in due time; 2) Promoting the employment of students and graduates; and 3) Strengthening the multicultural and linguistic awareness of the representatives of the working lifeThe main target groups of the project: Diak: Final stage students and graduates in the field of social and social services with migrant and Romani background at Pori campusSAMK: At the end of their studies, the S2-speaking International Degree students in the following English-language programmes: Nursing & Physiotherapy Bachelor Degree (Nurse Amk, Physiotherapy Amk) and graduates of the above-mentioned training programmes at Pori campusWinNova: End-stage students with immigrant and Romani background and recent graduates at Pori and Rauma campusesSataedu: Students with immigrant and Roma backgrounds in the social and health, hospitality and nutrition, construction and technology sectors and recent graduates on various campuses Workplace staff in Satakunta, such as workplace counsellors, recruitment and career guidance (incl. TE Office, employment agencies) and staff of educational institutionsSatakunta is developing operating models that promote students’ graduation and employment in cooperation between two secondary schools, two polytechnics and representatives of workplaces. Key actions and results: 1) Students have received the support they need for their final stage studies, internships/work-based learning and working life-based thesis and have received approved credits from these. Students’ professional knowledge of Finnish has been strengthened. Co-operation and tools have been developed with internship counsellors/job instructors to help students perform the internship. 2) Students and graduates have received encouragement and guidance from the alumni and other employees in their field of study, learning the Finnish language and finding a job. Their job search skills and working life networks have been strengthened and job search in job-search workshops/workshops, as well as through recruitment and visits. Jobs have been involved in cooperation to support the employment of the target group, and job representatives feel it useful. 3) Working life representatives have taken part in the coaching they have been planning and can make concrete use in their own work, e.g. as mentors and recruiters for multilingual students. The cities of Pori and Rauma are engaged in cooperation, as well as other public actors, companies and associations in the region. The objectives of the project are in line with the Satakunta Provincial Programme (2018-2021) Priority Axis 1, the Enhancing Communityity objective and the Employment and Social Inclusion development theme. The aim is to unlock all the labour market potential, to promote new forms of network cooperation between the employment and business sectors, the third sector and educational institutions, and to promote a smooth transition from education to work. The aim of the project is to improve the working life capacity of students and graduates and to support work-based learning.
