The target group of the Ihan Sami project, managed by the Lahti University of Applied Sciences and implemented by the Kiipula Foundation, is the young adults of the Kiipula Vocational College who need special support in different areas of life, or for whom regular vocational training is too demanding, access to normal working life is challenging or the risk of falling between them is high compared to the career expectancy of a student with normal opportunities. The target group of the project is also the students of Lahti University of Applied Sciences, as well as the teachers and tutors of both organisations. The aim of the project is to develop, pilot and implement a common learning environment between Lahti University of Applied Sciences and Kiipula University of Applied Sciences, offering different degrees and different target groups, where the Oranisations jointly implement sustainable and effective educational cooperation, curriculum and work-based learning model, strengthening the learning paths and working life skills of both education organisations. The aim of creating a new model of educational cooperation based on expertise and a common learning environment is to take into account the individual operating conditions of learners from different starting points, the increase in teacher guidance skills and pedagogy as part of individual learning in the development of students’ study paths and working life skills and equality. The joint learning environment developed in the project includes the implementation of long-established internships for students between Lahti University of Applied Sciences and Kiipula Ammo, as well as the modelling, piloting and implementation of the NY Youth Entrepreneurship concept, suitable for the operating conditions and competence needs of the Kiipula Vocational College, in the entrepreneurial education of Kiipula Vocational College. These are linked to working life experiments and projects with companies and other actors in Kiipula in collaboration with LAMK and Nuori Entrepreneurship Association. The “Special Youth YY” concept developed in the project can be modelled as part of the offer of the Young Entrepreneurship Association, which operates nationally, and can be used in the curricula of other educational organisations. The project’s information and communication measures will strengthen regional cooperation between different education and training organisations and enterprises, and promote working life skills and learning pathways for special young people, as well as opportunities for internships in enterprises in the region. The project will produce a clear-language guide for workplace learning for teachers and a company offering internships to support internships and study guidance. As a result of the project, an established, continuous partnership and operational cooperation between the training organisation and the companies in the region will be established, consisting of peer support, learning and teaching work, a common learning environment and working processes, between LAMK and Kiipula students and teachers and instructors of both organisations. As a result, students in both organisations develop their working life skills and employment opportunities, as well as the professional development of LAMK students to work with different and special customer groups. Strengthening cooperation with companies in the region will help Kiipula students to gain access to working life for training periods and on-the-job learning. The development and integration of internships between different levels of education, the development of a common learning environment and its steering approaches, and the integration of teaching and guidance staff will increase occupational equality, equality between students in access to employment, and respect for diversity, regardless of gender and competence. Cooperation reduces the compartmentalisation of students with normal and disabled young people, even by renewing gender-specific work roles and dispels prejudices about the employment of special young people in companies.
