TU — Prevention of early school leaving through hospital education — project

The City of Joensuu is implementing the Tuu Associate Project, the prevention of early school leaving through hospital education from 1 August 2019 to 30 July 2021. The main objective of the project is to support the schooling of disadvantaged children and young people in the pupils’ own school and the articulation phase when the student moves from a hospital school to their own school by developing a new approach to hospital education. The project strengthens the parenthood of children and young people and their capacity to cooperate with school staff. Support the mental and social capacity of the child and the young person, as well as the capacity and skills of the child and the young person to study. The project develops the job description of the instructor in hospital education and the multidisciplinary network cooperation that requires special support. The project’s work will focus on providing guidance to participants and strengthening their mental and social capacity. The aim is to seek working methods for networking and to prevent early school leaving, marginalisation and inequality of children and young people. The short-term impact will be the development of the schooling capacity of the children and young people involved in the project. The long-term impact is the prevention of early school leaving, exclusion and inequality, as well as the development of multi-professional networking in hospital education. The young people participating in the project have received support in applying for further training, completing studies and thus supporting vocational skills and integration into the labour market.
