Car-sharing services have been operating in Europe for more than 20 years and are becoming an increasingly popular tool to deal with: problems with traffic jams, CO2 pollution and vehicle overload in the city centre. It is estimated that one car sharing service provides an alternative to up to 12 own cars and complements the city’s public transport system. However, the main challenge faced by car sharing service developers is the efficiency of car traffic, as more users can transport the same amount of cars. The CityBee car sharing service in Vilnius aims to implement a car flow analysis tool that integrates dynamic pricing and car pooling functions to help to make more efficient use of the existing fleet, thus providing benefits for consumers (car in the right place) and the city — less cars in the city centre, and an additional public transport system.
