The A8 Panevėžys-Aristava-Sitkūnai highway of national importance is part of the VIA BALTICA road, the I pan-European transport corridor and the trans-European TEN-T road network. The road connects Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania with Poland and Western European countries. VIa BALTICA is one of the most intensive international highways in Lithuania and, at the same time, one of the main Lithuanian transport arteries, which concentrates the largest share of freight vehicles whose traffic is growing year by year. Project "Development of the Trans-European Network Road E67 (VIA BALTICA). Phase II of reconstruction of the surface" provides for the reconstruction of the A8 Panevėžys-Aristava-Sitkūnai section from 8,32 to 23.36 km (total 15.04 km): reinforcement of road surface construction; reconstruction of existing throughpass and viaduct (road 16.44 km); installation of intersections, individual level crossings, bus stops (18 units), car parks (on the right of the road 8.6 km), pedestrian paths (total length 1.264 km), connecting roads (to gardens) and environmental facilities; reconstruction and installation of engineering networks; design and construction of the connecting road to Šilaičiai cemetery (by road A8, section from 9.55 to 9.95 km, left side of the road). The project will provide convenient transport conditions for transit and local traffic, improve road safety, reduce the number and probability of accidents and reduce travel time.
