The aim of the project is to increase the security and reliability of the electricity distribution network and ensure uninterrupted supply of electricity to customers. The objective is to modernise transformer substations and distribution points using smart technologies and to implement “self-healing” network solutions in individual network segments. The planned activities of the project are: — refurbishment of transformer substations (35/10 kV Sodeliškis TP); — refurbishment of transformer substations and automation of the power grid (110/10 kV Riešės TP, 35/10 kV Jieznas TP, 110/10 kV Canvas TP, 35/10 kV Rozalimo TP, 110/10 kV Priekulė TP, 35/10 kV Giedraičių TP, 35/10 kV Pilviškių TP); — upgrading of distribution points (SP-532 Kaunas, SP-722); refurbishment of distribution points and automation of electricity grid (SP-70 Marijampolė m., SP-12 Kupiškis m.). The main factors behind the project are the ageing of 110/35/10 kV and 35/10 kV transformers, the ageing of 10 kV distribution points, the low automated management of the medium-voltage grid, the aim of increasing the reliability of the electricity distribution network, energy efficiency while reducing CO2 emissions. The TP and SP to be reconstructed are in a different state, but they are not suitable for any facility and do not meet the requirements of a “modern” substation or distribution station. Some of the objects use old analogue relay protection, when microprocessor relays/controllers are currently installed in newly reconstructed facilities, i.e. programmable industrial computers and transformers with reduced technological losses are being built, smart metering is being implemented to remotely scan the distributed and substation electricity used for its own use. Parts of metal and reinforced concrete structures are outdated/worn, which need to be replaced with new ones in order to reduce the number of possible mechanical failures associated with mechanical stress and corrosion.
