Reconstruction of Jonava 16th February, A. Kulvieas, Chemikas streets, installing modern traffic safety measures

The issues addressed by this project are: lack of safe, healthy streets, speeding up the accessibility of residents to other roads, business and public facilities. Objective of the project: “improve the connectivity of Jonava on February 16th, the streets of Kulvietis and Chemik, improve their technical parameters and implement traffic safety measures. The ongoing project will cover the following activities: 1) introduction of traffic safety measures; 2) development of local road transport infrastructure. According to the information provided by the Traffic Accident Information System, the number of accidents in the road sections to be managed has increased significantly in recent years. The largest number of accidents were recorded in Chemikos str. (34 events), the smallest in A.Kulvieo str. (9 events). The main cause of accidents is the poor state of the road and the lack of road safety measures. According to detailed statistics for 2015, which provides information on persons injured in road accidents, it appears that in the streets in question most often (3 events) were injured by pedestrian crossings and collisions (3 events), while other cases were climbing a pedestrian without a crossing (2 events). During these accidents, 8 road users experienced minor health problems. In 2013 and 2014, the number of injuries was lower — 3 and 1 respectively. This indicates that traffic conditions on these streets are deteriorating. The standings of the reconstructed streets are unsatisfactory, the streets are pitted, there are breaks and various cracks, asphalt crumbled, the boards of the streets crumble, collapsed, and the pavements are physically worn and unsafe. In order to analyse the traffic volume of vehicles on the streets to be reconstructed in Jonava, traffic-intensity studies were carried out. It is estimated that at least 31 294 vehicles pass through these streets per day. The main causes of accident — poor visibility, absence of safety islets, absence of signs to inform about the emergency intersection of the road.
