Refurbishment of infrastructure promoting public environmental education at the Lithuanian Zoo

The Lithuanian Zoo was established in 1938 in the historical territory of Kaunas Ąžuolynas Park, where 222 animal species and more than 2000 individuals are kept. The main objective of the institution is the conservation of biodiversity and the promotion of nature conservation knowledge. However, it is not possible to provide suitable housing conditions for kept animals, since their expositions are based on voliers built in the Soviet era, which do not guarantee animal welfare and do not meet the requirements set by the EU and the European Association of Zoos and Aquariums. In this context, during the project “Renovation of infrastructure promoting public environmental education at the Lithuanian Zoo”, the refurbishment of the zoo is planned, which includes the following independent investment objects: The construction of a veterinary building; B) Construction of exotic with educational spaces and outdoor volleyballs; C) Construction of animal buildings and volleyballs. After the implementation of this project, the Lithuanian zoo will be renovated, i.e. one environmental-recreational object, which will help to solve the problems of the zoo: Attendance (seasonality of visitor flows); Animal welfare and living conditions; Animal treatment conditions and environment; The state of engineering networks; Public education and training in the field of biodiversity protection.
