Reconstruction of the Underground Information Centre of the Lithuanian Geological Service

The collections of expositions and collections of the subsoil information centre of the Lithuanian Geological Service, located in Vievis, Elektrėnai municipality, are used to realise various state and international scientific programmes in Lithuania, to prepare specialists and scientists of various professions, as well as to accept mainly school and student excursions, during which the geological environment of the country, its development and the riches of the earth’s subsoil, as well as environmental problems of recent years, are presented. The worn-out infrastructure of the subsoil nature museum of the subsoil of modern society hinders high-quality education and information in the field of the environment, so it is necessary to update and expand it, taking advantage of the existing museum material and the institution’s experience, in a convenient geographical location. The essence of the project is to reconstruct the building of the Earth Information Centre of the Geological Service of Lithuania by investing EU structural funds, to restructure the environment and to install new expositions, thus attracting more visitors, who would be provided with information about the geological environment, educational programmes for pupils and students are carried out.
