Promotion of vocational training and lifelong learning in Lithuania

In Lithuania, the number of students in both VET and non-formal adult education is below the EU average. According to Eurostat, vocational education and training in secondary education is almost twice as low as the EU average (in Lithuania, 28 % between 2010 and 2014 and around 50 % in the EU). In addition, according to Eurostat, Lithuania’s low lifelong learning rate (participation in learning in the last 4 weeks) was 5.5 % among the population aged 25-64. (European Union average in 2015: 10.6 %). The aim of the project is to increase the attractiveness of vocational training and to promote the concept of lifelong learning. The target group is pupils, teachers, parents and other adults. A range of activities and measures are foreseen to improve and promote vocational training and the image of LAGs: organising and publicising professional excellence competitions, improving the image of various forms of media, in order to make them attractive to as diverse and wider groups as possible — television, radio, public space screens, social media, etc. The project will contribute to increasing the attractiveness of vocational training, positive parents’ attitudes towards vocational training, raising the prestige of learning in vocational schools. During the project, adults will learn more about various attractive lifelong learning opportunities, better understand the importance of lifelong learning, become aware that continuous learning is important for every adult in order to remain competitive in the labour market, meet the needs of personal development, etc.
