The National Climate Change Information Portal shall be implemented in order to establish an effective coordination mechanism for the development and implementation of climate change policy, aimed at state and municipal institutions, scientific institutions and research centres, economic operators, non-governmental and other organisations, promoting their involvement and cooperation, and ensuring effective and high-quality communication of climate change mitigation and adaptation policies and their implementation in all sectors of the Lithuanian (economic) economy. The need for the portal is based on the fact that currently in Lithuania information and data on climate change mitigation and adaptation are collected and managed by a large number of institutions, but there is no unified access to reliable, systematically selected and up-to-date information that would be easily found and accessible to various public interest groups in all sectors of the Lithuanian economy. The Ministry of the Environment of the Republic of Lithuania is an institution of the Government of the Republic of Lithuania, which is one of its functions in shaping the country’s climate change state policy and coordinating its implementation, but these processes are currently lacking in efficiency, it is difficult to ensure the receipt of information from institutions, there are no effective technological tools for information management and coordination, and the integrity of information systems managed by different institutions is limited. The objectives of the portal are enshrined in the National Climate Change Management Policy Strategy and its interinstitutional action plan for the implementation of its objectives and targets for 2013-2020 and other national legislation. The creation of the portal is initiated by the Ministry of the Environment.
