During the implementation of the project “Infrastructures for the separate collection of municipal waste” the aim of Panevėžys is to solve the following problems (or to contribute significantly to their resolution): 1) Inadequate level of sorting of secondary raw materials and lack of means to achieve the required level of sorting; 2. the lack of technical means to ensure that sites for mixed municipal waste and secondary raw materials are only accessible to users for which the site is designated for use; 3) Lack of mixed municipal waste and secondary raw materials sites; 4) Lack of mixed municipal waste and secondary raw materials containers; 5) Visual pollution and odour pollution of Panevėžys city. In order to solve the problems, the project “Infrastructures for the separate collection of municipal waste” was initiated with the aim of increasing the amount of sorted waste in Panevėžys. Planned project activities: 1)Container site installation/reconstruction; 2) Installation of underground sites; 3) Acquisition of waste collection containers for container sites; 4) Acquisition of waste collection containers for underground sites; 5) Information to the public on waste prevention and management. The users of the infrastructure and the users of the services created by the project “Infrastructure for the separate collection of municipal waste” for whom the socio-economic benefits created by the project are the residents of Panevėžys city (multi-apartment buildings) (according to AB “Panevėžio Special Automotive Transport”, the population of apartment buildings in 2015 was 62706). Newly installed, user-friendly, visually attractive municipal waste collection sites for people with disabilities will allow the target group to make comfortable use of the waste collection infrastructure developed and will enable them to live in a cleaner, less polluted and more visually attractive environment.
