Increasing the effectiveness of tuberculosis prevention, diagnosis and treatment in Kaunas Clinics

Lithuania is among the highest risk countries for tuberculosis (TB). A large part of the population of Lithuania and the majority of patients in Kaunas county and Kaunas city with various types of TB are treated at the Romaine Tuberculosis Hospital of the Lithuanian University of Health Sciences (hereinafter — LSMU) Hospital in Kaunas Clinics. The lack of funding has not led to the refurbishment of the Roma tuberculosis hospital and insufficient investment in refurbishment of diagnostic equipment, which hampers the quality of service provision. In order to reduce the incidence of tuberculosis among the population, improve the quality of tuberculosis diagnostics, treatments and the availability of services, it is planned to modernise the infrastructure of the Romaine tuberculosis hospital of LSMU hospital Kaunas Clinics branch. The upgrade of the infrastructure will improve medical diagnostic and treatment equipment to meet modern standards, increase the possibilities for faster and more accurate detection of tuberculosis and the selection of optimal treatments, improve sanitary — the epidemiological situation in Roma tuberculosis hospital, repaired and modernised premises will meet the requirements of Hygiene norms, provide patients with better and safer treatment conditions, and reduce the risk of hospital infection. The results of the project will allow to provide high-quality and advanced health care services to people living with tuberculosis in Kaunas county and other regions of Lithuania.
