The project aims at Lithuania’s membership in the International Research Infrastructure Consortium (hereinafter — R & I) in the Weave Consortium, which will receive unique spectroscopic observations of wide-field stars. After becoming a member of this R & I, Lithuania will receive access to the spectroscopic observation data of the Weave consortium, which will be used to conduct qualitatively new surveys of our Galactic and other galaxy star populations. In order to maximise synergies between the studies carried out at Weave and MTI Molėtai astronomy observatory (MAO), the MTI MAO is intended to carry out adaptation works for 165 cm and 80 cm telescope towers, to install a new, modern 80 cm-diameter mirror telescope for photometric studies of Weave objects, to acquire two high-performance computer modelling systems to analyse the data generated by MTI Weave and MTI MAO, and to carry out other necessary upgrading of the MTI MAO infrastructure. The project contributes to the achievement of the objective of the European Union Strategy for the Baltic Sea Region (EUSBSR) to enhance the region’s prosperity within the policy area ‘Innovation’ set out in the EUSBSR Action Plan. After becoming a member of the Weave consortium, Lithuania will participate in the formation and implementation of ongoing astronomical observation programmes, will receive access to the unique spectroscopic database as a matter of priority, together with other members will initiate international projects, and will prepare international scientists more effectively. It is expected that the use of MAO telescopes and devices will also allow researchers from other countries to carry out studies on individual Weave facilities. The unique scientific material obtained during the Weave project will have a significant impact on the quality of their scientific output. The implementation of the project will promote international cooperation between scientists and ensure synergies between their competences in order to successfully implement the scientific objectives and tasks of this consortium.
