The project foresees the creation of the Science Centre of the Faculty of Medicine of Vilnius University, dedicated to the needs of biomedical research, study and technological development and contributing to the implementation of the priorities of the smart specialisation direction “Health Technologies and Biotechnology”. The planned infrastructure is a complex of structures that meet the technological requirements of the highest level experimental biomedical science and are needed to carry out the innovative study process. The established centre will encourage and enable the pooling of the potential of biomedical science in the Santara valley by consolidating the existing and developing R & D infrastructure, strengthening the interaction between science, study and business and by increasing the efficiency of the health system and the competitiveness of the medical sector through the results of this interaction. The creation and overcoming of the centre will increase the efficiency of scientific activities — the volume of interdisciplinary and interdisciplinary research under national and international programmes, the number of publications and quotations, and the increase in knowledge and technology transfer practices and commercialisation activities. The laboratory-experimental and practical training of biomedical professionals will be improved.
