The integration of a large-scale nanowire (NV) array into functional materials remains an issue, as NV synthesis is mainly limited by growth surfaces that hinder their wide application. In addition, many applications require conflicting properties that cannot be effectively realised in one material. The project will develop multifunctional coatings based on ZnO NV. A new production method for ZnO NV will be developed and implemented. Such coatings will be adapted to: in solar cells as a multifunctional coating, self-cleaning, reducing reflection, transforming UV rays into visible beam; B) Multifunctional gas sensor, sensitive and selective, activated by light, therefore low power adaptable on wireless platforms. Both devices can be formed on any surface. New methodologies will be used: The functionalisation of NV will be studied by electron microscopy (Etem) in a controlled environment, in order to find an interaction between the properties of ZnO NV, experimental data will be analysed using the experimental design (DoE) method.
