Improvement of access to and quality of services for the prevention, diagnosis, treatment and rehabilitation of cerebral circulation disorders in Kaunas Clinics

The project aims to reduce morbidity and premature mortality from cerebrovascular diseases (GSK) diseases in target areas and other municipalities, to improve early diagnosis of GSK disorders and to ensure the provision of acute stroke health care services in Kaunas Clinics of the Lithuanian University of Health Sciences (hereinafter — Kaunas Clinics), as well as to improve the quality and availability of inpatient and outpatient medical rehabilitation services for these patients. During the implementation of the project, funds will be invested in the acquisition of new medical equipment and the modernisation of premises for the provision of stroke, diagnostic, treatment and rehabilitation services by GSK. Currently, the medical equipment available to Kaunas clinics for the diagnosis and treatment of GSK disorders is insufficient, universal equipment is used, part of the equipment is worn out, the premises do not meet the required requirements, therefore the provision of services and quality is restricted. The updated medical equipment will significantly improve the availability of specialised neurological assistance (related to the diagnosis of cerebrovascular diseases) and medical rehabilitation services for patients arriving to Kaunas clinics from target areas and other municipalities, will reduce the frequency of repetition of complex tests, queues to specialists, speed up detailed examination, as well as help avoid primary and repeated hospitalisations, will reduce the frequency of exacerbations of cerebral circulation diseases and their complications. Modernisation of part of Kaunas clinics’ premises will ensure sanitary-epidemiological and hygienic regime, compliance of the services provided with EU standards. The refurbished premises will increase patient satisfaction in the hospital environment, improve their psychological condition and improve staff working and rest conditions.
