The project aims to improve the hydromorphological conditions of state water bodies by creating more favourable living conditions for biodiversity in rivers that have been hydromorphologically altered. The vast majority of all Lithuanian rivers have been adjusted, resulting in a decrease in river biodiversity, and ecological conditions have become unsuitable for certain species of fish and other aquatic organisms. The indicators of the regulated and hydromorphologically treated river quality elements do not meet the requirements of good ecological status and may not restore good ecological status or good ecological potential without improvements in hydromorphology. In order to improve the hydromorphological conditions of water bodies, it is envisaged to equip habitats with suitable conditions from stones and trees in river beds and to plant the coasts with trees. These measures will improve the living conditions of habitats and improve the status of rivers. This project will contribute to the implementation of Measure 2.2.3 of the Action Plan for the implementation of the Water Sector Development Programme 2017-2023 approved by Order No D1-375/3D-312 of the Minister for the Environment and the Minister for Agriculture of the Republic of Lithuania of 5 May 2017.
