In order to transform the Lithuanian economy towards new activities with higher added value, it is necessary to significantly increase the number of enterprises engaged in EP and innovation activities in the economy and create incentives for the creation of more economic impact innovations based on new knowledge. The importance of innovation and its specificity in business is also strongly determined by the global industrial development trends associated with the fourth industrial revolution (Industry 4.0). To address these challenges, it is necessary to concentrate innovation support and advisory services on: (I) minimising the “valley of death” between R & D results (development of new knowledge and technology) and innovation (technology deployment); (II) the creation of incentives for the absorption of R & D results applicable to the digitisation of industry; (III) promoting demand/offer for digital innovation; (IV) involvement in value chains for the development and deployment of digital innovations based on EU R & D results; (v) the use of digital innovations in the development of R & D activities; (VI) the formation and development of DIH services.
