The aim of the project is to increase the use of the existing and newly developed R & D infrastructure of the Kaunas University of Technology (KTU) Prof. K. Baršauskas Institute of Ultrasound Science in order to expand opportunities to participate in projects of international and/or regional initiatives. The aim of the project is to address the challenge “Development and upgrading of the infrastructure needed to carry out scientific research in the fields of ultrasonic non-destructive testing, measurements and diagnostics and to participate in international initiatives”. The infrastructure created during the 2007-2013 period will improve the infrastructure of the integrated science, study and business centre Santaka, which is not sufficient to perform high-quality ultrasonic non-destructive testing studies, measurements and diagnostics. Only if the equipment is modernised could it be possible to compete in an international context. Currently Prof.K.Baršauskas Institute of Ultrasound Science is the only one in Lithuania and Baltic Sea region to install high-level ultrasound measurement and diagnostic equipment in one place — KTU Santaka Valley. In order to improve the services provided by the Institute at the KTU Open Access Centre, to meet the technical context of modern research infrastructures, to initiate or contribute to the preparation of applications of a high international level, to contribute to the creation of common value in cooperation with business enterprises, and thus to promote not only opportunities for scientific-business cooperation, but also to increase investment in research, it is necessary to renew and expand the existing scientific infrastructure. The target groups of the project are academics, researchers, lecturers at all levels, business enterprises (Lithuania and abroad). The project contributes to the EU Strategy for the Baltic Sea Region, which focuses on regional prosperity. This strategy is linked to innovation and development, the development of research and close cooperation between the countries of the region in order to strengthen the sharing of research, knowledge and experience.
