In Lithuania, it is planned to develop a network of methodological and regional interdisciplinary centres of nature, technology, engineering, mathematics and arts (creativeness) (STEAM) for students, which will contribute to the promotion of natural sciences, the testing of innovations in various fields and the development of young researchers. One of the methodological centers (hereinafter referred to as the STEAM Centre) is established by Vilnius University together with Vilnius City Municipality by adapting the Planetarium building of Vilnius University (Konstitucijos av. 12A. Vilnius) — reconstructing and providing the necessary equipment and furniture to carry out the activity with the funds of this project. The Centre will develop 8 STEAM laboratories — life sciences (biology), chemistry, physics and astrophysics, light technology, visual programming, mobile technology and robotics, digital production, engineering — as well as other facilities needed to perform the functions of the methodological centre. Part of the laboratory topics descriptions and integrated laboratory activities programmes will be developed with the project funds. In order to increase the market share and added value of the economic sectors related to STEAM, one of the main aims of the STEAM Centre is to attract students to research through creativity, thus contributing to the future training of researchers and the creation of conditions for the growth of an innovation culture. Steam Centre will seek to educate students as researchers, innovators and innovators of the future, creators and producers of new high value-added products and services by strengthening the material, interdisciplinary, creativity, initiative, entrepreneurial and leadership competences required for their successful professional career. The Steam Centre will also enable teachers to continue their professional development.
