The A1 Vilnius-Kaunas-Klaipeda road forms the vast majority of the IXB transport corridor and is the country’s most important transport artery between East and West. The section of the A1 road in question from 10.0 km to 95.0 km is the main connection between the largest counties of Lithuania and their centres — Vilnius and Kaunas cities. The road section Vilnius-Kaunas has a high transit percentage of freight vehicles compared to the entire highway network. In order to ensure the smooth movement of all vehicles on this section of the road, it is necessary to implement innovative, safe organisation of traffic measures, which would allow for an increase in the speed limit of 130 km/h. The lack of funding has led to a lack of development of the necessary infrastructure, which has led to a number of infrastructure deficiencies that hinder the smooth operation of traffic conditions and have a significant impact on road safety. The project will implement the following measures to improve traffic safety and environmental protection: 1) installation of guard guards; 2) installation of net fences from wild animals; 3) reconstruction of the road section by changing the parameters of the acceleration and deceleration lanes; 4) Installation of underground pedestrian passages by Gariūnai, Dėdeliškiai, Skirmantiškiai and Yakštoniai and installation of the underground passage of Strošiūnai underground pedestrians and easy passage of cars; 5) Reconstruction of Kaišiadorys of different level junction. The project will ensure safe and convenient traffic conditions for local road users and transit vehicles in line with traffic volumes, traffic significance and international standards.
