Increasing energy efficiency in BIOFARM-ENGINEERING AD

This project proposal is aimed at increasing the energy efficiency and expanding the production capacity of the veterinary medicinal and immunological preparations of Biofarm-Engineering AD. The project is under the main code of economic activity of the company — 21.20 Production of medicinal products, which is characterised by high energy intensity. Currently Biofarm-Engineering JSC has the necessary facilities and capacities for the cultivation of microorganisms necessary for the development of vaccines against anthrax, brucellosis, tuberculosis (tuberculin) etc., but obsolete spilling systems limit the possibility of energy efficient production of larger batches of preparations. It is envisaged to replace the equipment currently in use with a new vaccine spill line to cover the processes currently carried out by different machines, namely: washing, drying and sterilising the vials and spilling. The new line will also allow purification of its water by means of filters, ensuring efficient use of natural resources and protection of the environment. The project provides for a system for waste heat recovery, purchase of an automated system for monitoring and control of energy consumption and introduction and certification of an energy management system according to the requirements of standard BDS EN ISO 50001. The planned energy savings for the enterprise as a result of the implementation of the project (PES) will be 86.5 % or 5 321 222 kWh/year, and the effectiveness of the investment in terms of the amount of energy saved in kWh on an annual basis to the required investment in BGN (kWh/BGN) will be 1.07 kW/BGN for CO2 emissions of 4274.9 tonnes/year.
