As a signatory to a number of international agreements in the field of maritime safety and search and rescue at sea and in implementation of the relevant EU legislation, the Republic of Bulgaria must maintain an organisation for adequate and effective search and rescue and establish a national system for overall coordination of search and rescue. In accordance with the CPC and the ZMPVVPRB and pursuant to Article 4(1)(6) of the Rules of Procedure of the Maritime Administration Executive Agency (IAMA), the EAMA organises and coordinates the search and rescue activities of persons, ships and aircraft in the Bulgarian maritime responsible region for search and rescue (BMORTS) and in the inland waterways of the Republic of Bulgaria.
