The project “PERSONALISED INNOVATIVE MEDICINE” (PERIMED) is developed in a joint partnership between Medical University-Plovdiv, PU and IMC-BAS. The project aims at building a new innovative research infrastructure focused on integrating research with the development of new and emerging technologies. Research and innovation activities are planned for implementation in the field of personalised medicine, with a focus on oncology, oncohematology, intensive medicine, innovative carriers for targeted therapy, bioengineering technologies and biosensors. Research is of an applied nature and will contribute to increasing the competitiveness of interdisciplinary research for the benefit of the economy and society. The project is part of the long-term strategy of the partners for the development of interinstitutional and responsible cooperation in order to support science in Bulgaria and make it a factor for the development of an economy based on knowledge and innovation activities, in accordance with the best world standards and practices. The project will build a Competence Centre by carrying out construction works and purchasing modern highly specialised equipment. The project will implement 12 large-scale innovative research programmes involving leading national and foreign researchers; researchers with high qualifications and experience in research in both the country and the EU; young scientists up to 34 years old. The project is directly related to the implementation of R & D in one of the priority areas for research development at national and European level — health related technologies. In this context, the activities planned to be implemented will contribute to the construction and consolidation of a nationally significant scientific infrastructure complex which will be successfully integrated into pan-European infrastructure networks in the field of personalised medicine.
