The project “Increasing the Effectiveness of the Policy on Public Health Protection” aims to improve the specialised knowledge and skills of the officials of the Regional Health Inspectorates and the National Centre for Radiobiology and Radiation Protection in the exercise of state health control and promotion and prevention of diseases on the territory of the Republic of Bulgaria. Protecting the health of citizens is a national priority and is guaranteed by the state through the implementation of various policies, including control over citizens’ health protection activities and state health control. This project will use one of the ways to increase the effectiveness of state health control, namely: improving the skills and knowledge of state health inspectors by conducting specialised trainings. Within the framework of the planned trainings, best practices, changes in European and national legislation will be presented, as well as practical trainings for working with information systems of the European Commission, application of methods for determination of immunisation coverage, analysis of explosions, advanced training for HIV testing and counselling, increasing knowledge on prevention and control of tuberculosis and organising information campaigns, enhancing the competence of experts in counseling on motivation and quitting smoking, limiting the health risk of alcohol abuse etc. For an 18-month implementation period with a budget of 199 999, 80 BGN in 18 courses, the Ministry of Health will train 606 public health specialists from RZI and NCRRP.
