The project aims at extending access to pre-school education for children from vulnerable groups and living in poverty. Pre-school education is an important period in a child’s life with a view to forming a positive attitude towards the school and creating motivation to learn. The reasons for non-inclusion in pre-school education are related to social, economic and ethnocultural factors such as low incomes, unawareness of the benefits of pre-school education, non-employee adults who can take care of children, etc. The project provides a set of measures — providing additional Bulgarian language training for children with different mother tongue as an effective means of social inclusion in the peer group, paying fees for attending a full day kindergarten such as overcoming economic barriers to inclusion and removing one of the most significant reasons for non-participation in pre-school education, motivation of parents for active cooperation between family and kindergarten. It is also envisaged to develop a specialised methodology for mastering Bulgarian language for children with different mother tongues. The development of the methodology and teacher training for its implementation will ensure the sustainability of the project. Early identification and provision of general and additional support to children identified as needing them are other activities aimed at active inclusion through the recruitment of additional pedagogical staff. Kindergarten teachers will be provided with training to apply a screening test to identify learning difficulties early. The activities to build skills of non-pedagogical specialists and to work and motivate parents for the benefits of pre-school education will also be accompanying the implementation of the project. It is also envisaged that two national campaigns will be carried out: to motivate parents and overcome negative attitudes and non-discrimination.
