With the adoption of Decree of the Council of Ministers (Council of Ministers) No 142 of 7 June 2019, the procedure for the development of the strategic and programming documents of the Republic of Bulgaria for the management of funds from the European Union (EU) funds for the programming period 2021-2027 was laid down. By Decision of the Council of Ministers No 196 of 11 April 2019, the Ministry of Environment and Water has been designated as a lead agency for the development of a programme in the environmental sector for the period 2021-2027. As the Managing Authority of the Operational Programme “Environment” 2014-2020, DG Environment is responsible for the successful implementation of the programme in the framework of the Financial Framework of the EU. The scope of this budget line includes the development of strategic documents to be used in prioritising measures in sectoral environmental policies financed under the Operational Programme “Environment 2021-2027”. The programming of the future programming period is linked both to strategic priorities at Community and national level and to the degree of implementation of the priorities of the current programming period. The forthcoming programming will be carried out on the basis of various analyses, studies and evaluations needed to prioritise measures in sectoral environmental policies. In implementation of the budget line, analyses, evaluations, reports, strategies, plans, etc. will be prepared, documents aiming at the preparation and approval process of the next operational programme 2021-2027 in the environment sector.
