The present project proposal is aimed at improving the quality of the urban and living environment by building a balanced system of public spaces, key for the urban social and cultural life. The sites in the urban environment are selected and united on the basis of an integrated territorial approach for a lasting improvement of the physical and functional characteristics of the elements of the environment, use the existing potential and meet the identified needs in the socio-economic analysis of the Burgas IWG 2014-2020. The sites have been selected within the territorial scope of the designated priority impact zones, in accordance with the increased needs of the territory and the funding opportunities for Priority Axis 1 of OPRG 2014-2020. The planned activities include the reconstruction of a central pedestrian zone, pavements and rehabilitation of key for the central part of the city, Vazrazhdane residential district and Meden Rudnik streets, accompanied by the formation of recreation areas, the establishment of parking spaces, energy-efficient solutions for street lighting, landscaping. An integral part of the integrated approach to improve the physical aspect of the urban environment is the reconstruction and renewal of functional spaces for recreation, sports and play, providing access to the maximum number of inhabitants in highly built-up areas, subject to intervention. The project is aimed at all residents and guests of Burgas, as it offers integrated and comprehensive solution of the problems related to the modernisation and reconstruction of the physical environment of significant public spaces in the city. The implementation of the project proposal will contribute to improving the quality of life, the living and working environment for the residents and visitors of the city. An integrated approach to improving the well-being of the community goes far beyond the outline of purely physically improved infrastructure, making public spaces key places for urban social and cultural life.
