Repair and reconstruction of pedestrian zone in central urban area (Bulgaria Blvd.) — stage I, Dimitrovgrad

The project development includes in its territory the central pedestrian zone of the town of Dimitrovgrad, covering the space between the main boulevards “G. S. Rakovski” and “D. Blagoev” Blvd. and has a total area of 32 518 m². The main pedestrian zone of the town of Dimitrovgrad connects the station and the bus station with the administrative center of the city — the building of the Municipality. It is a representative architectural ensemble that combines many ideas of modernism from the first half of the twentieth century, solved in the aesthetics of neoclassicism. The site falls within the scope of immovable cultural property in accordance with Article 58 of the ZKN and Order No RD9D-0020/25.11.2010 of the Minister for Culture. The ensemble is organically connected on a meaningful, functional and aesthetic level with the rest of the city. Its high value is determined by human-scale spaces and their contained architecture, fully commensurate with other areas of urban tissue. The pedestrian area in the city center is a natural urban planning dominantium, actively involved in the life of the city. The project development will cover the overhaul and reconstruction of all the elements of the pedestrian zone, namely: Comprehensive preservation of pedestrian pavements; Providing accessible architectural environment for people with disabilities; Shaping of recreation areas and public service areas; Rethinking and integrating the spaces under the colonnades of residential blocks to the area and directing the pedestrian flow towards them; Rethinking the space around the amphitheater; Reconstruction and renovation of the existing fountain; Replacement of lighting fixtures and providing energy-saving lighting, as well as decorative artistic lighting highlighting characteristic spaces and details; Planting of new tree species, bushes and flowers; Providing automatic system for drip irrigation of the green areas. Target groups — the population and the guests of the city and the municipality, including people in uneven situation, children, young people and people of active age, mothers with children, retired people.
