Project Reclamation of a landfill for non-hazardous waste of the town of Pernik is submitted under procedure BG16M1OP002-2.010 “Remediation of landfills for closure subject to infringement of EU law in Case C-145/14” under Priority Axis 2 of OP “Environment 2014-2020” and includes eligible measures and activities under the procedure. The expected result of recultivation is to improve environmental conditions linked to the interests of society. Recultivation processes are aimed not only at restoring the functions of degraded and contaminated soils, but also at creating balanced environmental systems representing socio-economic and aesthetic values for human beings. The project provides for the reclamation of a municipal landfill with an area of 195 decares, located in the “Markovi Egretsi” area, the land of the village of Lyulin, the Municipality of Pernik. Recultivation aims to minimise the adverse impact of accumulated waste on the environment. An in situ method which best meets the characteristics of the terrain and the requirements of the legislation is intended to be used for the implementation. The method provides for the encapsulation of the waste by surface sealing by placing a mineral sealing layer and/or sealing which prevents surface waters from coming to waste, as well as the sieved contact of humans and animals with them. The final shape of the surface of the landfill shall take the form of a dome with an appropriate inclination to allow the safe run-off of surface waters. This option allows part of the surface water to penetrate the waste, thus supporting the decomposition processes by collecting and discharging leachate with a drainage system designed to remove the leachate from the body of the landfill.
