The project proposal includes improvement of key sites from the urban environment of the town of Shumen through rehabilitation and development. The project is directly aimed at the implementation of eligible activities: reconstruction, rehabilitation of pedestrian alleys and pavements, construction of cycle paths and alleys, pedestrian areas, separation of playgrounds, installation of park furniture — benches, restoration of fountains, creation of conditions for access for people with disabilities, introduction of energy efficient street lighting and lighting of parks and inter-block spaces with energy efficient lighting fixtures. The main objective of the project is to increase the quality of life, social inclusion and improve the condition of the environmental components through the development of the physical elements of the urban environment. Target groups — the population of the city, including disadvantaged people, children, young people and people of active age, mothers with children, retired people. The expected result of the implementation of the project is the improvement of more than 40,000 square meters of streets, pavements, pedestrian lanes, lighting and inter-block spaces, which will improve the quality of the urban environment, namely renovation of poorly maintained, due to lack of sufficient funds and amortised infrastructure. These interventions will directly improve the economic and demographic conditions of the city and indirectly — the environmental and climate. The project will contribute to achieving quality results related to spatial planning, overall competitiveness and cohesion of the regions. Also with its realisation will increase the attractiveness and improve the quality of the urban environment in the city of Shumen as this will be a prerequisite for providing sustainable and ecological urban environment for higher quality of life and intensification of social contacts.
