Modern University of Modern City: Value orientation, openness and inclusiveness in a 21st-century higher education model

The aim of the project to be submitted by the University of Pécs in response to the EFOP 3.4.3-16 call is to implement a complex institutional development that will enable both students and academics to respond to labour market challenges and international competition with increasing performance. The project defines the development plan of the University of Pécs for the period 2017-2021 in accordance with the Institutional Development Plan and the Ministry’s concept of “Development in Higher Education”, in a comprehensive and coordinated manner in the various areas of university faculties and trainings. The University of Pécs has three priority projects in line with the Institutional Development Plan: 1. To develop a single university, i.e. to further strengthen integration between its faculties and in terms of education, research and social responsibility. 2. Developing an innovative university, i.e. by mobilising the resources at its disposal, should act as a creative, leading institution in the fields of education, research and healing, capable of responding to socio-economic challenges. 3. Becoming an international university, i.e. an actor in the higher education sector with international visibility, competitiveness, rank and quality of service in all areas of his activity. In line with the call, the University of Pécs defined its development goals and needs in relation to 10 areas, as well as the framework and activities needed to achieve them. The main activities of the project are to maintain the number of students at the University of Pécs, to expand its training structure, to modernise, internationalise and expand its sports services. The main project activities planned to achieve the above objectives are: A.1. Intensive support for student stay — Habit module — The impact of the integrated and coherent services will be multiplicated, which will help students identified as disadvantaged target groups to stay in higher education and successfully complete their studies and adapt to changing labour market requirements. A.2. Expanding, modernising and digitising the training structure of the University of Pécs taking into account economic needs — This package of measures includes institutional training development and modernisation and measures to help prepare for the challenges of the labour market. A.3. — Internationalisation of PTE with programmes and activities at institutional level — The programmes of the faculties of PTE and of the Directorate for Foreign Affairs, which coordinate internationalisation at institutional level, in order for the University of Pécs, as one of the leading institutions of higher education in Hungary, to become more involved in the European Higher Education Area, in an international sense. A.4. — Coordination of international relations in the Carpathian Basin — PTE provides a learning and educational opportunity, as well as by transferring its own knowledge, it aims to support the implementation of Hungarian higher education courses in the Carpathian Basin region. A.5. — The development of a complex sports service and health education system at the University of Pécs — a programme element for the development of physical activity, health education and sports services. Programmes for the development of priority groups of training areas: B.1. Methodological development, practical skills and the development of an innovative educational environment in the field of medical and health science training B.2. — Improving access for female students and disadvantaged groups in the MTMI area B.3. — Short-cycle training and vocational development in the agricultural training field in the spirit of sustainability B.4. Redesign of the economics training portfolio (joint) with the development of training programmes and modern equipment pool at the KTK B.5. Digitalisation, innovation, environmental awareness and social inclusion in teacher training. By carrying out the above tasks, the performance of the University of Pécs can be enhanced, the number of students can be stabilised by increasing territorial and educational coverage, by improving the quality of teaching and service resources, as well as by closer economic cooperation. The detailed description and justification of the project are described in the attached Feasibility Study.
