“Főnix ME” — Renewable University Higher Education Institutional Developments to improve the quality and accessibility of tertiary education together.

In its programme entitled “FŐINX-ME Renewable University”, the University of Miskolc set as a general objective the renewal of the University of Miskolc, improving its competitiveness, improving the quality, efficiency and accessibility of its trainings and services, based on the intellectual potential of the institution, reducing the social and territorial disadvantages of the region, increasing the proportion of graduates, improving the quality of life and the chances of people with disabilities and disadvantaged people on the labour market, and strengthening the ability to attract students abroad. The fact that the North Hungary region is one of the cumulatively disadvantaged regions of Hungary in terms of both social and economic processes played a key role in the start of the project. The retention power of the Northern Hungary region is very weak. Many persons belonging to the HHH and SNI groups, members of the Roma community and persons with disabilities. The Higher Education Strategy “Transformation in Higher Education” aims to increase the share of tertiary graduates aged 30-34 to 35 %. The objective is negatively affected by deteriorating demographic conditions, which are more cumulative in the region of North Hungary. It is important for young people to ensure the widest possible access to higher education, to increase participation in education, to socially catch up, and to compensate for disadvantage, which are the basis of economic recovery. All this needs to be ensured even more in cumulatively disadvantaged areas. The University of Miskolc has to announce the improvement of the quality, efficiency and accessibility of tertiary education. This should include the inclusion of disadvantaged students, the modernisation of training capacities, education support services, educational and digital innovation, the development of labour market competences and practical skills. There is a need to increase the territorial coverage of higher education services, the expansion of international relations, the integration into the European Higher Education Area and access to sport and health education services. The implementation of the project promotes and develops both directly and indirectly the characteristics of the disadvantaged social and economic processes of the North Hungary region. Through the project, the University of Miskolc must become one where every student can develop his own talent, skills and knowledge, so that by completing the training they have the opportunity to enter the labour market. It is necessary to prevent labour migration, establish conditions for lifelong learning and ensure catching up. It is necessary to make widely and high-quality knowledge available as the right basis for delivery in the domestic and international economy. In order to achieve these goals, the University of Miskolc has 9 sub-projects (1. RP Community Centre for Higher Education, 2. RP Educational Innovation, 3. RP Educational innovation training, curriculum development, 4. RP Inclusion, social innovation, 5. RP Internationalisation, 6. RP Digital Innovation, 7. RP Healthy University, 8. RP Student Innovation, 9. RP implements the following main activities in the framework of the development of student services: • Catching up with Ozd and Sátoraljaújhely through the establishment of a community higher education training centre and outsourced training, • helping new graduates to be fit for the labour market and increasing their successful employment, by making the training courses practice-oriented, involving practitioners in training, • improving contacts with labour market players at institutional and regional level, linking university instructors-students-companies, • expanding higher education career services, increasing institutional embedding, • promoting cross-border higher education cooperation in order to develop the education space in the Carpathian Basin, related to the development of student and language services, • by training those who train the skills and skills of higher education teachers, workers and practitioners, • by improving training conditions to ensure the sustainable development of the developed courses, • the development of library services aimed at transforming and developing training courses based on new training and output requirements, • developing student skills and digital competences.
