Implementation of skills development and communication programmes for higher education and promotion of MTMI at the University of Pannonia

Our application is aimed at increasing admission to the University of Pannonia (PE), thereby increasing the level of tertiary education in accordance with the EFOP-3.4.4-16; focusing on mathematics, science, information technology and engineering (MTMI). The key players of success are not only students, but also high school teachers, academics, and companies themselves. It is important that expectations are communicated to each other by the institutions, so that the formal and non-formal education and guidance of students can be carried out accordingly. Furthermore, it is important that teachers-instructors continuously measure and develop students’ skills and abilities in line with higher education and then market needs. The three basic pillars of successful career choices are good self-knowledge, supply-side knowledge and career knowledge in addition to the right level of knowledge. In order for students to choose a profession and career in accordance with their interests, abilities and skills, it is important that these basic pillars are stable at their disposal. Our professional program has been structured accordingly, focusing on MTMI specialisations. Among the project elements for students, our skills development and career guidance activities help to assess and map the students’ personal desires, opportunities, strengthening and/or developing areas, in order to choose and complete the most suitable degree program, minimising the possibility of dropping out and leaving. The various educational programmes and events provide insights into a wide range of MTMI disciplines, as well as the opportunities for higher education training that cover it. Different circles, camps, competitions, mentoring programs, professional days help you get into higher education, both theoretical and practical. Factory visits, image films, alumni performances support career knowledge. In addition, we intend to promote the relevant PE trainings by stepping up communication activities. The other focus group is the teaching and teaching circle, to whom we wish to provide training in a non-formal framework with the help of conferences and internal training series. In addition to the development of general and specific communication skills, professional and methodological training will be provided. Innovation is also reflected in our programme, as we want to actively involve representatives of secondary, tertiary education and industrial companies in the implementation of the project. In cooperation with the National Association for Future Engineers, the Zalai Mathematical Talents Foundation and the National Association of Research Teachers, the PE Consortium aims to implement the following professional activities: — testing and developing vocational knowledge and self-awareness of secondary school pupils; individual and group skills assessment and guidance counselling — skills development programmes, workshops, trainings for secondary school students — lectures on MTMI fields, interactive programs for primary and secondary school students — Summer universities in MTMI areas for secondary and primary school students — competitions in MTMI areas, competitions (biology, programming, etc.) — university, faculty open days, laboratory visits — preparatory courses (mathematics, information technology, physics, chemistry, biology) — talent-providing specialists (mathematics, IT, physics, chemistry, biology) — interactive factory visits — professional forums, conferences for trainers, teachers — training of trainers for career guidance and enrolment — preparation and acquisition of interactive tools for skills development and demonstration — preparation of various applications and questionnaires to support career choices — production of image films showing MTMI career paths — enhanced communication activity The planned implementation time of the project is 01.09.2017 to 29.2.2020, i.e. 30 months. The locations of the implementation are mainly PE sites: Veszprém, Keszthely, Nagykanizsa and Zalaegerszeg. In addition, we plan programmes to be relocated to other, especially disadvantaged districts. The target group of the project is the secondary school age group, but we also offer educational and skills development programmes for the 6-7-8th grades of primary school. Teachers and trainers are the secondary target group for whom we plan vocational and further training programmes. For the implementation of the project, we have won the cooperative support of a number of corporate partners and secondary schools, with whom we wish to implement the project in close cooperation. The detailed technical presentation of our project is contained in the Feasibility Study. Cost-effectiveness and the implementation of the “value for money” principle were highlighted in the budget planning. Only the activities necessary for the implementation of the project were planned in the budget. The timing of the milestones has been planned as required in the Call.
