The project is aimed at implementing integrated measures to improve the urban environment as part of the implementation of the Integrated Plan for Urban Reconstruction and Development (IPHLG) of Sofia. The intervention sites are located in the area for public functions of high public importance — “O1 Center” designated by the IHLG and are part of the IP of Sofia Municipality (SO). The territories are characterised by highly depreciated and poorly functional infrastructure, impaired environmental performance, overburden with various elements of urban design and numerous conflict points between pedestrians and cars. In order to ensure comfort and security, innovative approaches related to the flooring and use of the spaces are needed. Priority is given to public spaces over cars, which is one of the objectives of the IHLG Vision. The quality of urban design gives the feeling of comfort and wealth to the city. It is determined by the quality of the green areas, the flooring and the elements of the urban furnishings. Pedestrian areas and routes located in a central urban area (CFC) are explored in the general context of the city, together with their impact on public life, social communication and the quality of the environment. The analysis concludes that the city has enormous potential, which can be developed precisely through an integrated approach. With this in mind, the project activities are aimed at reconstruction, creation of shared spaces, provision of aesthetics, modernisation of the areas and accessible environment. Their implementation will contribute to improving the quality of life, ensuring access to basic services, improving the environment and the development of the area. The project is oriented towards meeting the needs and needs of the target groups — the population of Sofia, the district, visitors and tourists. It will help increase the investment attractiveness and balanced economic development of the city and the region, will have a beneficial social impact.
