The present project proposal provides for the establishment of a Competence Centre for “Digitalisation of the Economy in a Big Data Environment” in the priority area of IIS “Informatics and ICT”. The proposed CCP will be an ICT complex infrastructure with integrated research organizational structures and with a special focus on applying scientific results in different business areas of Bulgaria. We envisage this research complex to be based on state-of-the-art scientific and technological developments, international and industrial standards and best business practices, based on the world’s leading technologies. The project has attracted some of the most prominent national researchers in the field of ICT infrastructures to digitalise the economy based on Big Data, attracting and elite professionals from Europe, creating not only a national critical mass of high-level scientists and technology developers, with a well-defined organisational structure and their own research and innovation programmes, but also creating a centre of competence unique in nature and research for Europe. The envisaged structure of the CCP-DITD will conduct research on the one hand and on the other will create innovative solutions that will ensure the development of companies and organisations in Bulgaria to digitalise their activities with the application of ICT in a Big Data environment. Digitising major economic areas with application of ICT tools and Big Data will create a huge national potential for increasing the competitiveness of the Bulgarian economy. In order to implement these activities, an infrastructure (facilities, resources and services for the scientific community) will be established for the conduct of research, in particular scientific equipment, archives and structured scientific information, pooled in a cloud structure, supported by the hardware and software necessary for the functioning of the system.
