The primary objective of this project, like the National Climate Change Strategy at the national level, and the Budapest Climate Strategy, is to lay down the guidelines and objectives that can be achieved in order to prevent the adverse effects of climate change in the long term. The second objective of the project is to adapt to the other directions of the district focusing on environmental sustainability, such as “creating a more liveable, friendly, greener environment” (The concept of maintenance and environmental protection of the Józsefváros Municipality, 2014), creating a climate-conscious living environment for the inhabitants of the district. In addition, together with strategy-making, the development of a realistic vision, goals and measures, as well as the awareness-raising activities outlined in the project, a further aim is to strengthen the climate sensitivity of local actors (population, institutions, businesses), i.e. to increase the sensitivity of the population, decision-makers and the economic sector to the problem through well-functioning, innovative, local activities and initiatives. Two important project elements will be implemented: 1. Preparing a climate strategy. 2. Awareness-raising: Within the project, the following awareness-raising actions and events will be implemented: — A series of interactive thematic awareness-raising programmes at 3 thematic workshops (see point 3.1.1.2.a of the call for proposals): Two important segments of the district’s life, which affect the population, are waste management and sanitation and public transport. In the framework of the workshops, we actively engage with three different target groups of the population, looking for concrete answers and solutions to the problems. The event, supported by the Józsefváros Municipality, is open to the general public and offers a wide range of family and children programmes. Target group: local population. b) “Bródy Piknik” action: The Bródy Piknik is a major event in the district, organised by the Civilians for the Palace District Association for many years. It is also possible to present the environmental values of the district, to present the environmental situational picture of the district, to present the elements of the climate strategy and to assess the attitude of the population. Target group: local population, visiting tourists. c)Health day action: An annual event in the district, which includes the promotion of healthy lifestyles and the organisation of screening programmes. On Health Day, it is possible to present the health risks of climate change (heat waves, pollen pollution, new diseases and pathogens) among participants. Target group: local population. — Awareness-raising of local actors for the employees of the institutions involved in the project (see point 3.1.1.2.c of the call for proposals): Presentation of the climate strategy of the VIII. district in thematic blocks: analysis of the situation, vulnerability, overarching and thematic objectives, main measures by sector.
